Ochre is a basically " मिट्टी का पीला रंग". And hence the name "Ocher Studio", tracing roots back to the homeland.

A tribute to the roots, ‘Ocher Studio’ had been founded in 2018 and works with artisans and craftsmen of the Bastar region of Chhatisgarh State in India. Ocher experiments with regional art forms alongside professional architects and designers. The engagement is not just limited to act as a bridge and facilitator to the tribal artisans (mostly) but also empowering them by wider outreach of their inter-generational know-how and its application on experimental art forms. The region is a hotbed of ancient arts and culture where many traditions, skills and folklore are still alive.

From nothingness to actuality..!!

We started our journey in 2018, from exploring our own homeland. Being an Architect, i anyway have an inclination towards Art and Craft. So I started learning the local art forms in my own homeland – Bastar without any bigger picture in mind. The path of learning, to experimenting, to an Enterprise and then becoming a brand was so organic and full of emotions. We never envisaged the experiments will turn out to be a beautiful venture with a family of now 30+ artisan family in more than 8 different kind of art work.

From Bastar to world..!!

There is always an emotions attached to work "IN homeland" and work "FOR homeland". This beautiful connection between us and artisans family is what keeps us going and going. Ocher has successfully reached in most part of the country & more than 15 countries across the globe. Being the curator of art workshops under their venture " Karyashala" where we are curating hands-on workshops to make people learn and go through the experience of handcraftsmanship.

IMPRESSION on individuals..!!

Working together at their homes, artisans have been able to experiment and use their creative skills endlessly. In the journey of these years, artisans who gave up their traditional artforms and adopted daily wages work, have come back to their practice. Ocher has been striving to keep the artisans' traditional knowledge in the present world in an experimental way. Their livelihood has been increased and they have a good living through their craftsmanship. With an extended family of (number of) artisans, Ocher Studio shares the emotions with all. Together we indulge in the conservation of art and promote it for wider outreach. Thus it is a collective way of giving back to the tribal homeland.
